See, that’s what the app is perfect for.

Sounds perfect Wahhhh, I don’t wanna

So, are we just not going to talk about how Seam is apparently female?

image

Yes, there are male characters in fiction who use “atashi”, but the vast majority of them are flamboyantly gay. Introduce a character without obviously masculine traits, and having them use “atashi” may as well be flat-out telling a Japanese speaker “consider this character female”.

Yes, Susie uses “ore”, but she’s a delinquent; being an ore onna is completely appropriate given her character. Besides, she even uses “atashi” herself, early on.

This may be the Japanese script, but as it stands we have a little evidence they are female, and zero evidence they are male. (If such evidence exists that I forgot about, please tell me so I may delete this post.)

OK SO PEARL’S NAME

breadofthewild

image

ok so you probably know that pearl’s outfit in octo expansion is based on the notorious b.i.g. aka biggie smalls

what you probably dont know is that pearl’s full name in japanese is “houzuki hime”. houzuki comes from “daio houzuki ika”, which is the colossal squid. hime comes from “hime ika”, the northern pygmy squid.

basically what im saying here is. pearl’s japanese name is “colossal pygmy” which is literally the squid version of “biggie smalls”

the platonic dialogues, adapted for granblue fantasy

  • Scene: The house of Callicles.
  • Callicles: The wise man, as the proverb says, is late for a fray, but not for a feast.
  • Socrates: And are we late for a feast?
  • Callicles: Yes, and a delightful feast; for Gorgias has just been exhibiting to us many fine things.
  • Socrates: It is not my fault, Callicles; our friend Chaerephon is to blame; for he would keep us loitering in the Agora.
  • Chaerephon: Never mind, Socrates; the misfortune of which I have been the cause I will also repair; for Gorgias is a friend of mine, and I will make him give the exhibition again either now, or, if you prefer, at some other time.
  • Callicles: What is the matter, Chaerephon-does Socrates want to hear Gorgias?
  • Chaerephon: Yes, that was our intention in coming.
  • A Monster, Bursting Through The Door: RAARAGH!
  • Socrates: A moment, Callicles, as we attend to this beast.
  • [Socrates defeats the monsters, assisted by Joker from Persona 5, a third of the cast of Love Live!, and Mothman]
  • Callicles: Come into my house, then; for Gorgias is staying with me, and he shall exhibit to you.

People give Kojima a lot of shit for goofy plots but conveniently forget he basically called most of the last 5 years way back in 2001.

The bit about the internet enabling everyone to cultivate their own internet ‘group’ that are all in total agreement and never have to experience the viewpoint of anyone else was completely right and wouldn’t fully take from until around a decade (if not more) later.

This dialogue right here is exactly why I consider MGS2 one of the best-written games of all time.

Sure, the game itself is a huge clusterfuck of weird, but eventually they ambush you with shit like this and 15 years down the road it’s eerily accurate given how little of the framework that allows for stuff like this to happen was actually in place at the time.

so this speech from mgs2 has been bothering me for a couple days since i saw this reblogged and i think i’ve finally been able to figure out why; that being that the content/context the patriots ultimately create is war. that is what this series of machines decides is important to the human race and based off statistics they’re not wrong. already the reason that most news outlets cover “sensationalism” or follow the perp. in mass shootings over the victims is that violence sells. that media probably feeding in to the fact that people confined to their echo chambers are becoming more violent to differing opinions. anyway just something i think that we should be aware of.
